Cellular wireless connections are prone to fluctuations and variations in performance. 4G/5G connectivity is usually unpredictable and can be unreliable. This can be deadly for applications that require uninterrupted Internet connectivity.
4G LTE, 5G cellular modems are great alternatives for more expensive satellite dishes, with lower cost and enhanced mobility. However, live webcasting or live video streaming from the field over a single cellular modem is rarely successful because of the variability of single modem performance.
Sustaining high enough rates for applications that require high peak rates and high capacity, such as Wi-Fi hotspot services in mass transportation vehicles or special events, can not be supported with single SIM cellular MiFi devices.
Certain real-time applications are mission critical and cannot afford to have disconnections. This problem is increased in vehicular setups, where the moving vehicle will cause connectivity problems and application failures when implemented using a single 4G LTE, or 5G wireless network.
Portabella is a Broadband Bonding™ appliance that combines and intelligently manages 2, 4 or 8 wireless SIM connections from any of your service providers. Portabella can spread a single session over the available paths and therefore create a single super-fast internet pipe.
Portabella supports a bonding tunnel that is optimized for live video transmission using our Streamer add-on. Streamer applies a special coding before transmitting partial streams and therefore any network problems such as packet loss, latency or jitter are shielded from the video application.
Portabella is a packet-level load-balancing 4G LTE, 5G router. Portabella can bond cellular Internet access lines for all types of traffic (including encrypted traffic such as VPN) for aggregated downlink and uplink capacity when peered over the Internet with a Mushroom Relay located at the headquarter office or data center. Alternatively, the optional Broadband Bonding Service subscription enables downlink/uplink bonding.
Portabella supports a free add-on, the Streamer tunnel that is optimized for live video streaming from the field to any CDN or video server over the bonded 4G LTE, 5G modems. This video optimized bonding tunnel enables live video streaming applications to be 100% shielded from any network problems such as packet loss, latency, jitter, or even full modem disconnects. Even during those challenging situations, the live video stream will continue without a glitch.
Various Portabella models support embedded modems with high temperature and vibration tolerances, including train certifications. Other Portabella models support external USB-based modem ports for additional flexibility all in a compact form factor.
Static IP addresses in the cloud (or from your data-center) can be mapped onto the Portabella. This means that static IP is available for services that rely on stable IP addressing, such as VPN, VoIP/SIP and others. Inbound network access remains available, even during 4G LTE or 5G outages, as long as at least one of the WAN links is connected.
Portabellas are preconfigured before shipment and therefore supports zero-touch installation when received. Any additional configuration or monitoring can be done through the web-based management interface either locally or remotely, as well as through a cloud based Portal that provides in-depth monitoring capabilities. All wireless ISPs are supported worldwide.
Portabella can be configured in pass-through mode to function inline with the existing legacy firewalls/routers with the existing network configuration untouched. If preferred, Portabella can also be installed as the primary firewall/router with strong encryption (up to AES 256), website blocking, DNS redirection, and advanced filtering, all based on field-proven secure platforms.
“We are thrilled with the Streamer. Not only that, we are now able to generate new revenue streams by charging for live events.”
“I highly recommend Streamer as a video solution to anyone who is looking to add quality and reliability to their video streaming capabilities.”
“Our connections now provide the available bandwidth for all of our responding agencies to access our real-time information. They are able to access resources back at the office or across the Internet as needed.”

Yes, you can combine SIM cards from different service providers.
Yes. You can connect an additional wired Internet line, a satellite Internet or any other Internet access line via the Ethernet WAN port of the Portabella and Streamer.
Our units have two operating modes, namely, the standalone mode and the peered mode. In standalone mode, only http downlink traffic will be bonded and all other types of traffic will be load-balanced. For packet level aggregation granularity, including bonding for all types of traffic and streaming live video, a peering node (either our Cloud Relay Service, or your own Mushroom Networks Relay Server) is needed in order to stitch the packets back together during the bonding process.
Yes, Streamer works transparently with any CDN and video server.
Portabella and Streamer models have the exact same hardware. They have different software licenses and the aggregation tunnels they use. Portabella is optimized for general Internet use while Streamer is optimized for live video streaming from remote locations.
Streamer PRO has a built-in video encoder so that you can connect your broadcast camera directly. Streamer on the other hand does not have a built-in encoder and relies for you to feed in an already encoded video stream from your video encoder (such as a software encoder on your laptop, smartphone or a hardware encoder/switcher).
For mission critical live video streaming we recommend more than 2 cellular connections and therefore Streamer models are limited to the 4 modem and 8 modem models.
The total bandwidth usage of a live video streaming session depends on the video encoding bit rate and the duration of the stream. As an example a 60 minute, 4Mb video stream will consume 4 x 60 x 60 / 8 = 1.8GB of data where 1B (byte) = 8b (bits). With an estimated 10-20% video-armor overhead, the expected usage will be around 2.1GB for this example.
You can get your data SIM cards and data plans from your service providers.
