Based out of Ceres California, AdTech IT Solutions provides a one-stop shop for all systems and network admin needs for businesses. Services span a wide range of IT capabilities from server/client hardware, network engineering and design, VoIP Telephone Systems as well as security services. AdTech’s mission is to design and develop technology solutions while proactively managing all technology services for municipalities, agencies and small to medium business clients.

Providing top quality VoIP performance while also shielding network and ISP problems from the client

Common fluctuations in the ISP network connectivity, including high latency, jitter, packet loss, cross traffic, backbone congestion and many other factors, was directly impacting voice quality of VoIP (Voice over IP) as well as IP-based VC (Video Conferencing) systems. Such fluctuations in the ISP links can be transient or long-lived and are therefore unpredictable. That meant the VoIP systems were experiencing hissing, crackling, echo or gaps in conversations or even dropped calls if it was relying on a single ISP connection, no matter the SLAs promised by the ISP.

Relying on a single ISP link for critical internet connectivity often resulted in sub-par performance for cloud-based, real-time applications, as it is common for ISP links to suffer from performance fluctuations.

AdTech decided to leverage technology offered by Mushroom Networks.

Mushroom Networks’ unique and patented broadband-bonding SD-WAN solutions leverage overlay tunnels that intelligently steer packets onto WAN paths in order to optimize application performance and reliability. For example, the VoIP Armor tunnel orchestrates multiple ISP links, measures Internet line conditions in real-time including parameters such as packet loss, latency, and jitter and makes real-time routing decisions on a per-packet basis. This means VoIP packets traverse the optimal path at any given point in time. This results in zero dropped calls and no more hissing, crackling, echo artifacts or gaps in conversations. VoIP Armor produces the best MOS (Mean Opinion Score) out of the network for optimal VoIP / SIP performance.

“For cloud-delivered real-time services such as cloud-hosted VoIP, transport performance is everything. In our Mushroom Networks SD-WAN deployments the performance improvements have been phenomenal. We were able to consistently hit 4.5 on the MOS score scale, even outperforming some of our dedicated T1 circuits”, said James Lawson, President of AdTech IT Solutions.

“Our experience with AdTech’s rollout of Mushroom Networks’ solution has been nothing short of exceptional. So much so that the networks in our offices now can hide individual ISP problems from our users – that is priceless”, said Stephanie Lopez, Firm Administrator at Borton Petrini, LLP, a premier law firm with 10 offices throughout California. When AdTech rolled out the solution for Borton Petrini, the inter-office connectivity and cloud access for the offices’ voice and data services received significant performance boosts. The application-specific overlay tunnels were able to intelligently aggregate cable, DSL and LTE cellular broadband, when needed, for fast and reliable transport, equaling the performance of much more costly MPLS solutions.

“The last mile transport is usually the weakest link in terms of quality of service. Mushroom Networks resolves that problem. Where we have deployed Mushroom Networks’ SD-WAN, any transport issues were eliminated, delivering a virtual MPLS experience for a fraction of the cost”, added Mr. Lawson.

Boost in WAN Performance:

Cognitive SD-WAN was used to bond together multiple WAN circuits. The overall WAN metrics improved both for mission-critical applications, such as VoIP, as well as best-effort traffic. This provided better Internet service as well as excellent cloud-based services for AdTech’s client base.

Boost in WAN Reliability:

Advanced VNFs implement sophisticated traffic management and WAN orchestration algorithms that are capable of intelligently responding to network problems and then routing around those issues, essentially resulting in a “self-healing” network.

Specialized SD-WAN tunnels:

Cognitive SD-WAN with broadband bonding also provides for specialized IP tunnels. This means that tunnels customized for the specific application at hand will fit your networking needs like a glove. As an example, VoIP Armor is a tunnel that optimizes VoIP/SIP traffic in the network to shield phone conversations against any network performance fluctuations and network outages.

AdTech’s mission is to design and develop technology solutions while proactively managing all technology services for municipalities, agencies and small to medium business clients.

When AdTech began investigating Broadband Bonding and SD-WAN solutions for small and medium-sized businesses in the western United States, they chose Mushroom Networks’ state-of-the-art technology. The seamless and cost-effective integration of Mushroom Networks’ solution into AdTech hardware reaped significant benefit for their customers. VoIP users consistently achieved MOS scores of 4.5, outperforming dedicated T1 circuits for a fraction of the cost. And Mushroom Networks’ self-healing WAN orchestration resulted in networks that hide ISP connectivity issues (with bandwidth, latency, etc.) from the end user.

The SD-WAN with broadband bonding solution enabled intelligent management of the application traffic flows and the orchestration of the WAN connections to optimize end-user experience for VoIP services, inter-office communications as well as other Internet applications served by private, public or hybrid clouds.
