What is MPLS

Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a layer 2 communication switching protocol that relies on compact switching labels to relay payload to the next hop as opposed to the layer 3 IP addressing that used in the common IP routing protocol. MPLS provides quicker look ups and therefore has lower latency.
